Is Glipizide Different From Glipizide XL?

I am brand new to all this Diabetic stuff,,, so here is my question for 1 month my doctor had me on Glipizide 10 MG XL,,, I went in today for a recheck and he wrote me a new script for Glipizide 10MG,,,,but it is not the XL,,,, is there any difference, is it okay,,, my doctor will not be in his office for the next 3 days, I have to take the Glipizide 10MG,,, will that be okay?

The XL is the long lasting slow release format and the normal one is the immediate release format.

They work differently. You can take the immediate release for now since your doctor if unavailable and you don't want your blood sugar to increase but when you can contact him, you should let him know about the prescription.
