Is Galvus Met 50/1000 Better Than Janumet 50/1000?

Hello Doctor, my wife s doctor prescribed 1 tablet at midday and 1 tablet in the evening of Galvus met 50/1000 in triple therapy with diamicron 60mg 2 tablets in the morning. I had read in studies on gliptins that they generally have a poor benefit/risk ratio. I had also read in other studies that some gliptins are worse than others. for this, what do you recommend to my wife? Galvus met 50/1000 (vildagliptin) or Janumet 50/1000 (sitagliptin). Thank Sir.

Hi,

Both these drugs are from the same group, having almost similar profile, effects, benefits and side effects & therefore almost having same benefit/risk ratio. However, there seems only one difference that vildagliptin has a short lived duration of action as compared to sitagliptin. Therefore, vildagliptin is usually given in two times as compared to one time dose of sitagliptin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
