Is Fosamax Effective In The Treatment Of Osteoporosis?

I was told that I have osteoporosis on my hip and osteopenia on my spine. My doctor wants me to take Fosamax. My sister took it for many years and it did not help and I have heard a lot of bad feedbacks on Fosamax. I really don t want to take it. What should I do?

Hi,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned first do a bone densitometry test to know if you really need any medication with lifestyle modifications. So talk with your treating Doctor like this -

1)If you are on menopause and you have menopausal symptoms then talk about [Estrogen therapy]

2)Discuss about [Denosumab]every 6 months

3)Take calcium rich foods in diet and add a calcium suppliment not more than [2000mg]every day.

4)You can take vitamin D 800IU/day

5)Exercise can help you build strong bones and slow bone loss. Exercise will benefit your bones no matter when you start, but you'll gain the most benefits if you start exercising regularly.

Hope that helps
