Is Fioricet The Right Medicine For Headache And Cervical Arthritis?

I have only found fiorcet to be helpful for daily headaches from cervical arthritis, fibromyalgia and central sentization syndrome. I cannot get my dr.s to understand or prescribe. I am at my wits end, even trying topamax and a lidocaine infusion on Friday. I've had fibro17 years and tired of being non functional. Help!

1. Fioricet or fiorinal is a prescription medicine which contains and analgesic, caffeine and a short acting barbiturates and since this medication is addictive even when used once a day it is best used as a last resort.

2. Treatment of cervical headache is usually eclectic, like:
- Physical [manual] therapy with help of physiotherapist
- non steroidal analgesics [ibuprofen,naproxen]
- muscle relaxants
- medication used for treating migraine

3. Remain under constant supervision of a Rheumatologist for further prognosis and management, till then

- Avoid phenylalanine derived food which may trigger/mimic fibromyalgia symptoms: meat, eggs, fish, cheese, products containing aspartame, almonds, beef, legumes, nuts, peanuts, pork, pumpkin/sesame seeds, soyabean/flour.

. Fibromyalgia is not an inflammatory condition [thus turmeric is beneficial], and because there is no identifiable cause thus treatment is symptomatic, as a result both pharmacological and non pharmacological measures are used as adjuvant to get a good control of pain and extended symptom free period, such as:

. Relaxation and stress management [stress is trigger response to fibromyalgia symptoms], thus yoga & Pranayama are helpful

. Physiotherapy: wax massage, ultrasound/infra red technique to minimize pain.

. Diet rich in omega 3 is considered helpful in alleviating fibromyalgia symptoms.

PS. you may opt for DLPA (D-L-phenylalanine) which is not habit forming, and has no known side effects, and is available in health food stores.
