Is Elavil A Good Alternative Of Venlafaxine?

I have gone off my hormone replacement and am miserable. I break out in sweats every hour . its been 3 months with no improvement. My Dr. said to take Venlafaxine which is an anti depressant. I read it has terrible side effects and is addicting. A friend of mine said she take Elavil and its not addicting and does the same thing.

Amitriptiline is the grup of tryciclic antidepressant while venlaflaxine is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) class.
They can be used for the same purposes such antidepressant function, paniv disorder, generalised anxiety.
Amitriptiline can be used also for migraines, treatment of neuropathic pain such as fibromyalgia and postherpetic neuralgia, and less commonly insomnia.
