Is Effexor XR Better Than Lexapro For Treatment Of Anxiety?

a friend with similar symtons suggested I ask my Dr about Lexapro 5mg, but the Dr thought Effexor XR 75mg was a better choice for my anxiety. I took his suggestion without asking about Lexapro because he thought part of my symptoms related to perimenapause. I would like to relieve symtoms and still be able to think clearly. Are they similar products?
