Is Doxycycline The Right Medicine For Perioral Dermatitis?
I recently discovered I have perioral dermatitis. I changed all my skin care products and shampoo to all natural. I started on doxycycline 100mg PO BID for 30 days but I noticed about 7 days in my rash around my mouth was gone but now my forehead/neck/ back of ears were extremely itchy and breaking out with bumps with little whiteheads. I discontinued the doxy 2 days ago but am still itchy with these bumps all over. Benadryl works but is short lived. Any ideas?
I understand your concern. You seem to be having a reaction from Doxycycline, which sometimes manifests with itching, rash or hives. Please discontinue use of doxycycline right away and see a doctor as soon as you can. For future reference, besides abstaining from using harsh soaps and cosmetics, it is best that you opt for a topical antibiotic instead, that is medicine that is rubbed on the skin, such as Metronidazole or Erythromycin, and/or benzyl peroxide.
wishing you all the best.
