Is Carbamazepine And Oxcarbazepine Same?

Hi, my wife is been suffering from siezures from couple of years. she is been taking Oxetol 300 mg (oxacarbamazapine 300) but now we have travelled out of india and here we do not fine oxacarbamazpine but instead can she be prescribed with Cabamazapine 200 or 400 mg. Kindly advise

Hello,

The 2 drugs are not exactly the same, as oxcarbazepine according my knowledge has lesser side effects and is more effective. Both are used for seizures and if due to travelling you cannot find Oxcarbazepine, I would advice you to get Carbamazepine instead at least for the time being and return to using Oxcarbazepine once you get back.
