Is Bilrubin Count Of 4.0 A Serious Concern?

Hi, I am 24 years old. I am suffering from Jaundice from last two weeks. My bilrubin count is 4.0. Is it serious?? I am here to ask you 1. About the diet that I should follow. 2. How long will it take for the jaundice to vanish. 3. Can I eat boiled egg? Bread? 4. Any other suggestions. Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Total bilirubin with value of 4.0mg/dl should not be much of a worry.
Generally, in Viral Hepatitis, increase in bilirubin to such a value is observed causing jaundice.
Since liver is affected, you need to take diet rich in refined carbohydrates like sugar-cane or fruit juices. Keep yourself well hydrated.
Also, the diet you need to consume should be bland and easily digestible. You can consume white portion of egg and bread.
Take adequate rest and avoid strenuous physical activity for a week to ten days.
Usually, the infection subsides by a week and complete recovery occurs by 2 to 3 weeks.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
