Is Ativan Safe And Effective In The Treatment Of Anxiety?

My 90 yr old mother has been put on Ativan for anxiety having been admitted to a care facility ( nursing home) she has had pneumonia and bladder infection two weeks ago. She is in advanced stage of dementia. Now suffering from nightmares. Is this drug safe for her?
