Is Astaxanthin Drug Advisable While Having High Blood Pressure?

I am on a blood thinner (Xarelto) and take medication for high blood pressure (metoprolol success er/50 mg). I want to know if I would be able to take the antioxidant Astaxanthin. Also, my husband has low blood pressure and does not take any medication at all. Would he be able to take Astaxanthin? Thank you, Judy Williams, YYYY@YYYY

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Astaxanthin- because it is a non traditional medication, the safety profile or interaction list is not as clear but it is known to affect the breakdown of some medications.

This means that the level of the medication in the body is altered.

Since it is not clear if the metoprolol is one of these meds, it may be best to clarify this before taking it

I hope this helps
