Is Aristocort Cream Effective In Healing An Anal Fissure?

Hi I had 2 surgeries and a Botox injection to fix an anal fissure. I am suffering this condition for 1 year so far. The doctor who put the Botox injection just examined my bottom and he thinks the fissure is healing. He prescribed Aristocort cream (triamcinolone acetonide 0.02 % ). I wonder if this cream will slow down the healing process?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all, alter your diet to make sure that you have a high fiber diet and drink a lot of water. This will help make your stool less hard. You could even ask your doctor to prescribe you a mild laxative.

This will help prevent you from needing to strain to pass stools, which is how fissures develop in the first place and then its a vicious cycle thereafter. Now with respect to the cream, it will help bring down the inflammation and is hence unlikely to slow down the healing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
