Is Aricept Safe To Be Taken For Memory Loss In An Elderly?

I am a 66 year old woman. I started loosing my memory in 1994 when my daughter was was killed in a auto wreck just before her 18th. birthday. I noticed forgetfulness. It just kept getting worse. Now its so bad I can't seem to remember anything. Sometimes I forget to take my meds. I forget people, I've forgotten people, how to cook, drive, appointments, just about everything. A nurse told me about Aricept. That it might help me. Please help me. Aretta

Hello Aretta,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Aricept contains Donepezil which is used to treatment of memory loss. Donepezil is a cognition-enhancing medication and slows the progression of memory loss associated with dementia.
Other modalities of treatment including occupational therapy and assisted living should also be looked into.
Please be advised to follow up with your primary care physician or neurologist for further management.

Hope this answers your question
