Is Aranesp A Safe Medicine?

Do the risk out weigh the benefits in taking the drug Aranesp? I aleady experance the side effects before I take any shot of Araesp. It scaresa me to death from reading the drug interaction and all the cardiac, stroke risks. I presently take or on Warifin for blood clots in the brain. Have had two clots in 12 months. The drug info scares me. any advise?

Hello. Aranesp (darbepoetin alfa) is a man-made form of a protein that helps your body produce red blood cells. This protein may be reduced when you have kidney failure or use certain medications. When fewer red blood cells are produced, you can develop a condition called anemia.

Aranesp is used to treat anemia caused by chemotherapy or chronic kidney disease.

Common side effects of Aranesp include: hypertension and peripheral edema. Other side effects include: congestive heart failure and hypervolemia.

It completely depends on your treating physician to discriminate whether benefits outweighs risks.
