Is ALT Being 110 While On Fingolomod For MS A Cause For Concern?
Hi, I have MS and have been taking a drug called Fingolomod and also painkillers for backache a side effect of the drug. my recent blood test showed my ALT to be 110. The hospital said they were not concerned but this is way above the reference range.
Fingolimod is known to cause some increase in liver enzyme levels like ALT. For liver enzyme tests that value is not that high, do not panic, it's considered a mild increase. It is not recommended to stop the treatment, unless values go over a 5-fold increase from norm. Don't worry the values are reversible once treatment is stopped. Of course attention should be paid and if you develop symptoms such as unexplained nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, anorexia, jaundice and/or dark urine levels should be checked as soon as possible.
I hope to have been of help.
