Internal Itching In Right Ear With Ruptured Ear Drum, Had Taken Taken Treatment For Infection In Left Ear. Is That Normal?

I had a middle ear infection in left ear. Was put on antibotic. Next day my right ear drum ruptured. They said it was in lower part of eardrum , but they were confused since they didnt see an infection in the right ear. Now my right ear is internally itching. Is that normal? Also, I am supposed to be flying out of state in 3 days, should I be ok?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Dear Jadybluz
Hello I am Dr Ravinder Sharma ENT surgeon
On the basis of information provided it appears you had acute otitis media in one ear and now the symptoms may be suggestive of a similar infection in the other ear. I would advise you to get a ENT consultation done before taking flight. Boarding on flight carries a risk of tubal block and negative air pressure in middle ear. The ear with hole in drum will not have a added problem but the ear with itching may have increase in severity of symptoms

I hope this answers your concerns. Feel free to contact me if your need more information on this

With warm regards
Ravinder Sharma
