Infant With Watery Stools Since Birth Due To Breast Milk Intake. Lactose Intolerance Or Diarrhea? Treatment?

Infant having frequent watery stools since birth.. My 1 1/2 months old baby having frequent watery stools since birth.. When we consulted our doctor he asked for stool test.. On seeing the report he told us that problem is because of breast milk and not to worry until he gains weight normally and told to continue with the breast milk only.. Should I be worry or not.. Is it diarrhoea or lactose intolerance?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

As the pediatrician has examined and reassured, nothing to worry.

Frequent loose stools is common in initial months due to increased gastrocolic reflex.

What about the stool reducing substance test result?

If it is strongly and significantly positive, lactose intolerance can be suspected and lactose free milk can be given temporarily with the doctor advise.

If it is negative, continue breast feeding.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
