Infant Given High Dose Of Amoxicillin For Upper Respiratory Infection. What To Do?

Hi! My infant (6 months old) was prescribed amoxicillin yesterday for an upper respiratory infection. I misread the label and gave him a full teaspoon full last night and this morning when in fact it should have only been 1/4 of a teaspoon. What should I do?

Hi,
Thanks and welcome to HCM .
Amoxycilline is given in a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight in 3divided doses.
One teaspoon Amoxycillin contains 125 mg( 125 mg/5ml).
In certain severe infections the dose may be 100-200mg/kg.
There is nothing to worry if the dose is more.
From now onwards give 1/4th teaspoon as advised by your doctor.
Hope this answer is OK for you.
Further queries invited.
