I am sorry to hear that your infant is restless and requiring feeds more often.
From all you have described, this child can easily get dehydrated because high temperatures increase the amount of fluids lost through sweating. This is best managed with increased fluid intake through regular feeds. As the child is requesting for feeds more often than usually, this could be the possible explanation. I will like you to heck whether he/she is urinating as often as before(at least 5times for a new born), passing stool normally etc and whether the stool is hard or not. This will give some more clues if the baby is dehydrated or not. Feed the child to his/her satisfaction and monitor over the next days. If there is no change, you may consider seeing a doctor for further evaluation.
Hope you find this helpful. If there are any more questions, please feel free to ask us we shall happily provide answers. I wish your child all the best of health. Dr. Ditah, MD.
Newborn babies can't regulate their body temperatures, so they are prone to the effects of atmosphere temperature variations.
Hot temperature lead to evaporation of newborn body water leading to dehydration which in turn increases his thirst leading to consumption of breast milk frequently.
I advise you to make his room with comfortable temperature.
Give feeds as he demands with cry.
Monitor his hydration by his frequency of urination. He should pass urine 6 to 8 times per day at least.
For a new born if the room temperature is around 20 degrees then he should be properly wrapped up. That is a very low room temperature as far as the baby is concerned.
Your baby may not irritable because the room temperature is very warm. Infact they require a warmer climate as they cannot maintain the body temperature if the room temperature is cold.
Normally babies feed once every 2 to 3 hours. That is normal for them.
