Infant. Green, Frequent Stools With Mucus And Undigested Food. History Of Starting With Whole Milk. Signs Of Milk Allergy?

My 1 year old daughter has been having green stools with mucus in them, increased frequency of stools with undigested food in them. (Food from lunch at noon is in her stool at 4 pm partially undigested). She recently started whole milk. She started some whole milk on July 7th mostly in morning and night with breastmilk during the day. We went on a family vacation last week and she was completely on whole milk the whole last week. These symptoms have been going on for about the past 4 days or so. Does she have lactose intolerance or a milk allergy? She otherwise eats well and is playing like normal.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

The child is having loose stools mostly due to infection with a virus.

The mainstay of treatment is to maintain hydration of the child.

Give sips of oral rehydration fluids such as Pedialyte to maintain hydration of the child.

Monitor his hydration status.

Stool to be given for routine and culture tests to look for any infection.

Oral probiotic and zinc can be given with doctor prescription.

Hope I have answered your query.

Rehards.
