In Second Trimester, Had Smoked Marijuana Intermittently During Pregnancy. Will It Show In Baby's Drug Test At Birth?

Hello sir I am currently almost 28 weeks pregnant and have smoked marijuana intermittently during this pregnancy. Was just wondering the procedures Drs. usually perform when a baby is first delivered. I live in TX and the state is VERY strict on drugs in baby s systems at birth. I have stopped and am working on cleansing my system naturally,but am worried that my baby s system will not be clean at birth for a drug test . I am also wondering if all babies are tested in general or is it certain due to the state that I live in.

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. If you are in your second trimester and have smoked marijuana intermittently during your pregnancy I believe you are at a risk a having a baby that might undergo withdrawals that can be varied as marijuana does not have a set withdrawal profile. You may also have put the baby at higher than normal risk for psychosis. However if in TX they are strict on drugs, your only option to stop right now and to come clear by the time you deliver the baby. I hope you also consult a psychiatrist as soon as possible. I am not aware of the rules in the state of TX, however if you have a history of addiction on cannabis, it is not unusual to test you and your baby during pregnancy and childbirth.
