ICU For Two Respiratory Failures. On Bipap And Unconsciousness, Anxiety, Breathing Depress Cause Failure. Kidney Failure And Heart Attack. Is He Going To Be Normal?
My dad is in ICU at hospital and he has had two respiratory failures in a week. The last being this evening. He is back on bipap and is still unconscious. They sent us home saying he is "stable". When he is awake, he can't breathe at all and gets severe anxiety. He is not eating and this is so horrible to watch him go through this. They say they can't give him pain meds or anti anxiety meds as this tips the scales and makes his breathing depress worse causing failure. I don't feel that we are getting good answers from anyone at the hospital. Is he dying? Can this go on for a long period of time? He has other issues like he is extremely obese, has diabetes and kidney failure as well as two previous heart attacks, one being a low grade one two weeks ago.
Hi, it appears to be due to the heart failure due to the heart attacks, due to the inability of the heart to pump the blood to the lungs and body, so he is suffering with the breathless ness. Hi may be comfertable in the cardiac position, that is sitting in bending position at 45 degrees, with support in front, it prevents over load to the heart and salt free diet may be of help. Thank you.
