Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an abcess under a tooth that had a crown. The dentist couldn't get me in for a few weeks so he said if it causes u pain I will stick u on an antibiotic. The tooth never acted up. I went in last Tuesday to get the rc and he said everything went well I inly had one canal and everything should be fine. Wednesday things got worse instense ear pain all of my teeth felt like they were throbbing I was almost to the point of throwing up. I called the office asking if these symptoms were normal and asked if I should come back in and they said yes it's normal and provided me with a prescription of Vicodin. I took the pills and it did nothing to ease my pain. Called the office back by this time my dentist left for vacation. The receptionist felt so bad for me she lined up an appointment with a back up dentist the following morning. Thursday I wake up to numb lower lips swollen cheek and even more pain. Made it to the emergency dentist he took and X-ray my tooth was infected. So now 72 hours after taking antibiotics I am starting to feel part of my lower lip and some swelling has went down. My ear, teeth and lower jaw all hurt. I have been taking 600 of Advil and 1 tylenol every 4 hours. When I wake in the middle of the night I have been taking Vicodin. I guess I just want to know is this type of pain normal for this long? When will I feel relief, also if my tooth was infected why didn't my dentist give me an antibiotic to begin with?
