I Developed A Very Bad Sore Throat And My Lymph-node Under My Neck Get Swollen

I am a 20 year old female and have never had such symptoms before. Yesterday i developed a very sore throat and then later noticed the lymph node on the right side of my neck under my ear swelled and is painful if i apply pressure to it. My ear is kind of clogged but i assume that is from the swollen lymph. What could this be?

Hello Stephanie,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic. From what you have mentioned, you seem to be having some infection of the uuper respiratory tract, as you guessed right, like adenitis( very common). Might even be cat scratch disease, toxoplasmosis, tuberculosis related swelling of lymph nodes, although they are generally not painfull in Tuberculosis. But , please do not panic. It could be just a viral cause also, which might take a few days time to resolve. However, i suggest you to undergo a complete blood count, a chest X-ray, to begin with. Visit a physician and a ENT specialist as well. They will guide you in proper way.Hope i could answer your query.Take care.

ENT Specialist Dr. Diganta Kumar Das's  Response
Hi,
It is due to upper respiratory tract infection(URTI). Cause of infection may be many. Lymph node swelling is due to draining from pharynx. The clogging of ear is due to associated Eustachian tube block due to URTI.
Out of all treatment, ORAL hygiene maintainence is most important( I prefer Betadine ORAL gurgle).
Visit your nearest ENT specialist for thorough check up and treatment immediately.
Hoping for an early recovery
