How To Withdraw From Carbidopa-Levodopa?

My mother is 91 and had a stroke 4 months ago (hemorrahagic). When she saw the new neurologist she felt Mom had some symptoms of Parkinsons. She s been on carbidopa/levodopa for 6-8 weeks and I haven t seen any change. How should she be weaned off this med?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Weaning of cardbidopa may be not abprut. She may need to reduce the dose slowly. Please confirm that she is not suffering from parkinsonism before weaning of above medications otherwise she may develop rigidity, athetosis again , also chances of rebound phenomenon. Please consult your neurophysician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
