How To Withdraw From Atenolol?

I have been on Atenolol for a number of years, and just recently started having problems with it, I had to have another med added to my treatment, Procardia 30mg. I spoke with my doctor today and was told to discontinue the atenolol and continue Procardia. I ve read several places that the med should be gradually stopped. Should I question my MD about this or just stop the medication.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Procardia (nifedepine) is also an antihypertensive drug. So you can discontinue atenolol and switch to Procardia as your physician has suggested. There won't be any issues.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
