How To Withdraw Keppra Safely Without Side Effects?

Due to the immense side effects of Keppra, we are thinking of weaning our 5 year old son off the med. Although I am an RN, I don t want to overstep my boundaries. My husband and I are very concerned about the side effects (hyperactivity, excitability, mood swings, aggressive behaviors, etc). They are really affecting him in school.

I can understand your concern regarding this drug. You are absolutely right about the adverse effects of Keppra, however, stopping the drug can have serious implications for the child.
I would recommend to discuss this issue with the primary care physician who can switch to an alternate drug. If the drug is stopped abruptly it can lead to increased seizure frequency. To minimize this risk, the drug is gradually withdrawn.
