Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I have my bile duc blocked due to a previous open gallbaldder surgery my question is does the surging have to do the surgery again in order to unblocked the bile duc do I have a possibility of getting cancer if I leave it untreat I have this problem for 3 years now for how long more can I go without a surgery or what will be my best option besides the surgery I was at the hospital the Dr wanted to put a stent but I heard that is only for people that have cancer. Please reply I am very concern about this situation.
Sometimes open surgery of gall bladder especially if it had been an emergency ends up with blockade in bile duct wall. If doctor has felt that a stent would help overcome the block it is likely that quite pliable and benign and there is more risk for major surgery now or as preparatory to next definitive intervention to resolve the block/s. You can now understand stent is an secondary option as also in some cancer cases. If this is not resolved it would spoil the quality of life as well may also lead to cancer after a decade or so.
