How To Treat Swollen Glands After Sore Throat?

Hi I had a sore throat over six weeks ago, which spread to my right ear, my glands was not swollen and no temperature, the doctor prescribed a course of decongestants which helped clear the ear but the right side of my throat mainly tonsil area still hurts, more of a night time and often wakes me up with a burning sensation, seems to settle down again once I drink water, because this has gone on for over 6 weeks now I am starting to worry it may be more serious, please could you advise? thanks

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query here.
Tonsillitis pain sometimes will radiate to the ear on same side. The glands which you have mentioned may be a lymph node. The fact that it still hurt indicates persistent infection.
If I were your doctor I would have taken a swab from throat sent for culture and sensitivity examination. Depends on its report would have started antibiotics for 5 to 7 days. Betadine gargles can be done for 2 weeks thrice dail.
I would suggest you to consult your doctor about this problem and follow his opinion.
With regards
Dr Rao
