How To Treat Swelling And Bruise Behind Left Calf Muscle After Injury?
Hi I was kicked extremely hard in a soccer game 5 weeks ago in my lower back left calf just above the ankle, had large bruise plus swelling which left me with a lump the size of a golf ball. I was hit again in the same area Again 2 days ago and have bruising above and around the injured area, during the night my leg was feeling numb. I m femal, 49 and my mother died of an aneurism.Should I see a doctor?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Swelling and bruise in the lower half of calf after trauma is most probably due to hematoma formation. Injury to soft tissues can lead to rupture of small blood vessels and collection of blood in soft tissues. Hematoma is collection of blood in soft tissues. The hematoma can organize and undergo fibrosis and thus the swelling becomes firm. It takes some time for the hematoma to resolve. Association with numbness in the foot is suggestive of injury to nerve in the foot. Thus, I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and further management. Your history is not suggestive of aneurysm or any other blood vessel disorder.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
