How To Treat Soreness In Mouth Caused After Taking Amoxicillin For Infected Tooth?

Hi there, I have just finished a 5 day course of Amoxicillin for a infected wisdom tooth. However I think the infection has spread to the roof of my mouth and dangly bit at the back of my throat. The roof of my mouth is sore and it almost throbs both the roof of my mouth and dangly bit is yellowish in colour. What should I do? Many thanks

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain if you have an infected wisdom tooth there are a high chances that the bacterial infection which causes tooth decay can infect the throat and roof of the mouth leading to the above symptoms..

But it is also possible that the throat infection is not related to the tooth and it can be due to viral infection if you have flu like symptoms also along with the yellow patches..

I would suggest you to consult a physician and get evaluated and in case of bacterial infection antibiotics can be taken..

For viral infection antiviral drugs are not taken as they do not treat the infection..

In both bacterial or viral infection following remedies can be done..
Do warm saline gargles..
Throat lozenges can be soothing..
Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration preferably lukewarm ..
Avoid hard and spicy food..
In case of pain you can take Advil or Tylenol for relief..

Get the treatment of the infected tooth by either root canal treatment or extraction for permanent solution.

Hope this information helps..
