How To Treat Sore Throat,cough And Fever?

I saw a 25 year old patient with the complain of three days sore throat and fever . throat looked red, and white patches on the back of hard palate. I did rapid Strep and rapid mono , both negative. I treated it as viral, just supportive. He also complained of recent cough at nights. I am a new NP. Need some advice. Thanks

Hi dear ,

As per your query your patient has sore throat along with cough and fever and all persist even after treatment for viral infection and strep thoat test is negative . Well it seems to me that there are two different condition . Sore throat and cough could be due to acid reflux disease like gastrointestinal acid reflux disease and silent reflux disease and fever due to some other reasons . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination and treatment and get strep throat test done again . Doctor may prescribe H2 blocker and proton pump inhibitor .
