How To Treat Severe Constipation And Stomach Bloating Despite Having Hernia And Shingles?

My husband has shingles and a hernia. He has been treated and sent home, but has swelling the size of a football on his left side. This has been the case for the past month. He was extremely constipated at the time he got shingles and some of the medication added to the constipation. He saw a different emergency dr recently and was told to stop the heavy laxitives he was on as his bowel was empty. No one has told him what to do about the gas on his side and the bloating. Could the hernia be causing this or could it be from the shingles. He has beena monthnow with the shingles but years with the hernia.

Hello,

You have not mentioned what medicines you have been taking. Bloating and constipation can be a side effect of medicines you have been taking. It can be due to inadequate intake of water and fluids. Bloating and constipation can also be due to wrong food you have been taking that does not suit your system. Avoid taking food that triggers your symptoms of gastritis or acidity.

For a couple of days take papayas both raw (cooked well) and ripe. Take fiber rich diet. Avoid taking red meat and food that is hard to digest. Take boiled food for a couple of months. Avoid taking oily, spicy food. Take digestives and liver tonic.

Get clinically examined by a GP, get physical examination done. Get blood tests, liver function tests, and imaging tests done to detect ulcer (peptic / esophageal) or hernia (umbilical). Your treatment will depend on the pathology diagnosed. For relieve he can take antacids and PPIs. It will give him relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
