How To Treat Severe Back Pain Caused Due To Spinal Compression Fracture?

I had a spinal compression fracture on March 30th 2013 which was not diagnosed for six weeks after the fracture occurred. i still have pain in my upper back on the right side and still have a tight belt pressure through my upper rib cage. Physiotherapy has helped slightly. is the pain due to thoracic nerve damage therefore chronic or is there a chance it can be resolved?

Hello,

You have history of spinal compression fracture. Presently, you are suffering from upper back pain on the right side. You are suggested to wear a back brace for external support to limit the motion of fractured vertebrae. Reduction in activity may help. The back brace limits spine-related motion significantly and it may help reduce pain. You can take pain medication (naproxen) for relieve. Medications to stabilize bone density also help. Include food (nuts, tofu, cheese, milk, dairy food, broccoli, cabbage, etc.) good for the bones in your regular diet.

Take analgesic pain medicines, muscle relaxants for a short period of time as they can be addictive, bed rest, back bracing, and physical activity are helpful. Antidepressants can also help relieve nerve-related pain. Take food good for the nerves or you can also take supplements like Nerve-Up OD. Prolonged bed rest is not recommended as it may cause osteoporosis or bone loss.

You can take a short period of bed rest. Get clinically examined get treated for osteoporosis to help prevent further compression fractures. However, if there is no relieve you may need surgery. Surgical procedures used to treat spinal fractures include spinal fusion surgery, vertebroplasty, or any other surgery that may suit you better.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
