Hello, I recently spent quite a few days outside in very hot weather for work. I developed what I thought might be heat rash under my scrotum and inner thigh. I used gold bond to relieve the itch, but this caused an outbreak of small white heads. What should I do?
I would keep a possibility of fungal infection of the groins, due to exactly the same reasons e.g sweating. You may have subsequently developed folliculitis after using some topical medication.
For fungal infection, I would suggest you to use a topical antifungal cream e.g clotrimazole cream twice daily for 2-4 weeks along with an oral antifungal e.g fluconazole 150mg once weekly for 4-6 weeks.
Once the fungal infection resolves, prevention of recurrence is the main goal because unless the predisposing factors like sweating are removed the infection is bound to recur. For that you could use an antifungal dusting powder regularly which will not only keep the area dry but will also inhibit fungal growth.
An OTC antihistamine once daily e.g cetrizine 10 mg would help symptomatically.
regards
