How To Treat Irregular Periods Naturally?

Hello! I m a 31 year old women and I currently do not have my period regularly, for some unknown reason at the age of 15 my period stopped coming naturally and since then I have been taking birth control off and on to get my period. My concern is that I wonder if there is anyway I could do to get my period to come back the natural way because would like to someday have children, my only guess is that I am about 150 pounds overweight and heard of women losing their weight and their period would come back and there were able to have children, if you could help me in any way that would very helpful. ~ Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Menstruation is an entirely hormonal phenomenon. The pituitary gland in our brain sends signals to the ovaries in our bodies. These ovaries follow the signals and release female sex hormones. These hormones induce egg formation in ovary and this egg either gets fertilized during sexual intercourse or gets sloughed out during menstruation.

Now, coming to your situation, when there is imbalance between the signals the pituitary gland sends and the hormones produced, irregularity in menstruation occurs as without any egg production, there is no egg to shed in the menstruation. This condition is known as Polycystic Ovarian Disease or PCOD.

PCOD and obesity go hand in hand. As you are pointing out that you have irregular periods and you are overweight, you may have this condition too. It is very common problem in females.

Now to make them regular and to expect pregnancy in future, you should consult a gynecologist. He/She may recommend you blood tests to assess hormonal levels and may also perform an ultrasonography (USG). This may clear the picture of the problem and confirm the diagnosis. If you indeed have PCOD, doctor may prescribe you hormonal medication that is also used as birth control pills for some months and you may get back on track regarding menstruation. Also, exercise and losing weight can surely help. As I said before, obesity and PCOD go hand in hand.

To conclude, it is not a situation that is dangerous or non-treatable. In fact, it has very simple solutions in medicines although it is difficult to cure it naturally entirely. I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. Take care.
