Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has had GERD surgery, 12 weeks ago. Not working out well, acid reflux has stopped but can't ingest food well. We are told only recourse is reversing the surgery. If stretching the esophagus works for a time ,why can't the sutures beloosned so the lap is not as tight on the esophagus?
The sutures, once they are in place cannot be loosened. They are tight knots and the tissue heals over them. 12 weeks is a bit early to reconsider surgery. There still may be swelling contributing to the problem .Periodic, frequent endoscopic balloon dilations may be helpful to stretch the area. But if it is not successful then re-surgery is an option
