How To Treat Head Injury?

Hey quick question. hit my head on a telephone pole. It hurt and sent like an "electric" shockwave through my body. I kinda had a hard time driving home, i just kept zoning out. But I'm a hypochondriac sometimes. and I'm pretty tired. should I be worried/ Can I go to sleep? (tomorrow is the last day of school.)

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that you are conscious, oriented, able to drive and there was no other symptom other than headache and dizziness. Your mode of injury was mild.

But still, to relieve your anxiety I am mentioning signs of dangerous head injury which you should observe

: vomiting
: bleed through nose/ear/throat
: fits
: loss of consciousness for more than 5 minutes
: persistent headache not responding to painkillers

If any of above sign, you should consult doctor as soon as possible. The doctor will advise CT head to rule out fracture and bleed in brain. The fracture is usually managed conservatively while bleed may require surgical evacuation.

If no above sign, you should not worry at all. The dizziness, headache will subside with time. You can go to sleep. To fasten relief, you can follow few tips

: Avoid pressure at injury site
: Keep head at higher level than chest
: You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription.
: For dizziness, you can take Beta-histine or Cinnarizine after proper prescription.

Hope it will help you. Still no relief, you can consult doctor.

Thanks. Take care.
