How To Treat Fatigue With Burning In Groin Area?

Hi, my mum is an 80 years old, usually very active and vibrant. However for the last 4 weeks she has been feeling exhausted . Unable to stand for more than 2 minutes. A feeing of burning in groin area and pins and needles in legs. Legs become weak and she needs to sit down straight away. Her extremities are very cold. She also feels nauseous when this feeling occurs . Also when this burning sensation occurs she needs to urinate ASAP . Thanking you D. Bennett

Thank you for the query.
As per the history provided, your mother is 80 yrs old, physically active, but suffering from a burning sensation in the groin area along with an urgency to urinate over the past 1 month. In this context I would like to know whether she is diabetic or not.
Her symptoms are in favour of a urinary tract infection, which is very common in this age group of female subjects. I would advise you to get certain investigations done like Total white blood cell count, differential count and urine for routine examination and culture. If she has not been screened for blood sugar before, a fasting and post prandial blood sugar may be needed (pins and needles sensation may be a sign of neuropathy). It is very common in this age group to have an incomplete bladder evacuation (which can lead to an urgency), and if indicated she can have an ultrasonography with residual urinary volume (RUV) measurement. Increased RUV is another cause of Urinary tract infection.
Please do consult your physician, for a thorough physical check up. If the urine examination reveals, a urinary tract infection, antibiotic therapy may be needed.
Hope this helps you.
