How To Treat Ear Infection And Nasal Congestion?

I have had a bad cold. My right ear is blocked. I have had painful ear infections in the past. What should I be doing right now to prevent an infection from starting? I have been taking a steroid spray for my nose and my nose is not stuffed at all. I have been breathing in steam for my chest, nose and ear perhaps once a day. Should I do that more often? And what else might I try?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Try taking sudafed which is over-the-counter.
This will help open up the eustachian tube if it is blocked.
Eustachian tube is the tube that connects the middle ear to the throat and if blocked can lead to recurrent ear infections.
