General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

Dry and chesty cough usually occurs due to allergic reasons.Any allergic irritant or respiratory tract infection can cause cough.I would suggest you to take complete blood counts, chest x-ray or CT in order to identify the cause.

Meanwhile I would suggest you to take antihistamine cough syrup and montelukast tablet at night for 5 to 7 days.Steam inhalation and chewing medicated lozenges can reduce dryness in your throat.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
