How To Treat Dark Spots And Freckles On My Face?

I'm 36 and this year I have noticed that my face has developed a lot of dark spots, freckles. The ones I started to develop a couple of years ago have gotten darker and many new ones have come to the surface. Is there something that will make this better.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Sunscreen is an essential part in the management of any facial pigmentation.
UV A part of the electromagnetic spectrum of sun causes pigment darkening on face. Most people notice that the freckles appear more prominent in summers and when they have been outdoors for long hours.
A sunscreen should be broad spectrum. It should contain both UV A as well as UV B coverage.
It should be reapplied every 2-3 hours through out the day.
Sunscreen should be continued daily after the desired effect has been achieved in order to prevent the freckles from becoming prominent again.
At night you may use a demelanising cream containing one or more of the pigment lightening agents e.g Azaleic acid, Hydroquinone (2% or 5%), Kojic acid, Arbutin, Glycolic acid, Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine, licorice extract, Vitamin C, etc.
These skin lightening ingredients work by either reducing the synthesis of new melanin Or by exfoliating pre-existing melanin Or both.
Chemical peeling sessions can also be combined along with topical treatment. Glycolic peel is quite good for freckles and dark spots.
I would suggest that you seek an appointment with a dermatologist in your region.
Freckles and dark spots may take time to respond and therefore you have to be patient with the treatment and follow up regularly.
Your dermatologist might change or modify treatment according to the response.
