How To Treat Cystic Acne On Cheek And Chin?

Hey Doc, I am having some issues with acne. I have always had pimples pop up here and there however recently over the past 5 weeks or so I have got quite severe cystic acne on my left cheek and both sides of my chin. I have been using benzol poroxide to clear it up and it has worked a little however it is still being persistent. Can you advise me on how I can treate it to clear up.

Hi,

Yes,it could be a ’cystic acne' because cystic acne is also a type of boil that is formed when oil ducts become clogged and infected.

Boils occurs commonly due to bacterial infection (mostly staphylococcus aureus) in a person with Poor nutrition or Poor hygiene or might be problems with the immune system or diabetes or obesity etc.

Tab.Phexin 500mg (1st generation Cephalosporin) is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic and it is very well effective to cure cystic acne.

You can also be given other broad spectrum antibiotics like 2nd and 3rd cephalosporin or fluroquinolones (levofloxacin or ofloxacin) as per your doctor's advice.

Small boils could be treated with proper gram-positive antibiotic coverage for 3 to 5 days small course. Longer course of antibiotics must be avoided as it will lose the effectiveness of the drug or might develop resistance to the bacteria.

It would be advisable that you consult dermatologist for complete medical history and proper diagnosis of the underlying cause of cystic acne or boil.

Thanks
