How To Treat Constipation?

I am a 72 year old man who is in reasonably good health generally. Next week I am going in for elective colon resection for diverticulosis. This however, is NOT my main reason for writing.
Lately other digestive disorders have appeared. Constipation: It;s now a condition where I can't have a movement unless I drink a large glass of prune juice the night before. Even at that
it is usually a one time blast of liquid or mud consistency. Sometimes when I do have a formed bowel movement it is very narrow on the order of about 1/4 inch. I have no sense of hunger.

I eat because I know I must to live. I can't eat much because it feels my stomach fills very quickly and STAYS FULL for a long time. Many times while eating a sensation nauseousness comes
from nowhere. At other times my stomach and bowels, for no reason that I can ascertain, feel like someone has been beating them with a big stick and then it will stop. Many times I go to bed but the next day the bowels are feeling OK.
I don't know if this is germaine but I take high blood pressure meds and they all list possible constipation as a possible side effect.

I am well versed in what a diverticulitis attack feels like and what I am describing is NOT diverticulitis attack.

Tomorrow I will see the gastro surgeon for a pre-op conference and I will bring this all to his attention but I'd like to hear your opinion also.

Hello,

The bowel inconsistency is from diverticulosis. The prune juice dependency is habitual.

As per our clinical expertise, this issue will be resolved after elective colon resection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
