How To Treat Chronic Pain After An Open Heart Aortic Replacement?

My 45 year old daughter had open heart aortic valve replacement surgery 15 years ago. 6 years after the surgery she had the staples removed because they were protruding. She has chronic pain since that surgery. The doctors just took her off tramadol because of interaction with prozac. Can you recommend another pain med or procedure to alleviate her chronic pain issues?

Hi welcome to HCM.
Few individuals post surgery can present with chronic pain syndromes.Longterm use of analgesics is not recommended in patients with cardiac ailments especially post AVR.Drugs like tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline and SSRi's like escitalopram can result in excellent pain relief over long term.Cognitive and behavioural therapy can produce long lasting results.Consult your cardiologist for further help.
Thank you
