General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Weight loss with coughing for 4 months indicates the need to see for tuberculosis. I would advise you the following:
- Tests of blood for CBC, TB gold test, ESR, liver functions
- X-ray chest to start with and CT scan of chest to confirm
- Mantoux test
- Clinical evaluation by a pulmonologist

All these will lead to a proper diagnosis.
- If tuberculosis is present then you need to take a long course of anti-tubercular treatment as would be advised and you should have regular follow up
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment in the form of liver protective medicines, anti-tussive for coughing, high protein diet, correction of anaemia and vitamin deficiency

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
