How To Treat An Open Wound On The Finger Post Injury?

Hi, four days ago I cut across the joint of my ring finger with a knife. The wound is deep (clean cut) and was almost cut down to the bone. After the incident happened, I rinsed my finger under some cold water to wash some of the blood away. (Never did I open the skin flap to clean the open wound as blood was gushing out) Afterwards, I was able to stop most of the bleeding and applied ointments to prevent infection. I then wrapped the skin flap with suture strips, bandages, and gauze. I did not go to the hospital to get stitches. Below are some images right after the injury occurred: Since then, my ring finger has been in a splint to prevent the skin flap from reopening. As of now, the skin flap is slowly but surely reattaching itself from the center outward. It s a bit swollen (my guess is because of internal bleeding) but it doesn t seem infected and there is hardly no pain at all. Here are some images as of yesterday .My questions: How long will the healing process take? I know a cut this deep is going to leave a mark, but is there anything I can apply to the wound that may reduce scarring? As of now, there is no sensation when touching the skin flap. As the wound heals, will I regain sensation? Thanks for your time!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to injury to finger. For that you may require regular dressing. Along with that you may require antibiotics after surgeon consultation. Maintain proper hygiene. For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen and apply Neosporin powder over it locally.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam Kale
