How To Treat A Red Face After Applying Baking Soda Mask?

I made a baking soda mask (baking soda + water) on my face then I washed it very good with cold water and soap (my face was normal not red) after 2 hours I applied a layer of Vaseline and I bleached my face. However, my face has been very red like I got a sunburn is this okay? Will my face stay red?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your apprehension red face after applying baking soda mask. After reading your query with diligence I can make out that you probably have got contact irritant dermatitis. It is quite common due to chemical burn by the baking soda in the mask which causes immediate irritation to the facial skin.

For the treatment of contact irritant dermatitis it is very important to do strict sun protection. In my patients with your type of trouble I suggest a mild steroid cream over the red areas

I also suggest my patients to use a broad spectrum sunscreen. It is better to take rest for a day or two to give rest to you skin. Your skin may peel off so do not try to pick your dead skin.

All the best.
