How Can A Drooping Eyelid Be Treated?

Hi Dr Rynne, I have a 42 year old daughter who has an upper eyelid that has recently dropped & is obvious in pictures. She has seen her optometrist who is referring her to an oculoplastic surgeon in Atlanta (where she lives). My concern is whether her brain should be scanned before just treating for cosmetic appearance. What do you think? Thank you, concerned mom Janice Forrest

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello!

Welcome on Healthcaremagic!

You are right to think that other disorders should be excluded before discussing about surgery.

It is true that a lot of neurological disorders may lead to such clinical situation.
For this reason, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist and performing a repetetive nerve stimulation (ENG) to exclude myastenia .
A brain MRI may be needed too.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Best wishes, Dr. Aida
