How To Treat A Collapsed Bladder In An Octogenarian Without Surgery?
My mother is 84 yrs old and has a collapsed bladder....we have seen one uroligist and did not recommend surgery to fix it, so we are in the process of seeing another doctor to get a second opinion. My question is should my mother have the operation to tie up her bladder or is there something else that could be done?
There are options.
The first is if she is willing to wear a pessary. A pessary is a device that is inserted into her vagina that will keep the bladder from collapsing. She can wear during the day and not at night.
If this is too cumbersome, then I would recommend surgery if she is unable to urinate or has urinary infections. If she is without symptoms, then sometimes we can just leave alone, or close the vagina so there is no large collapse.
